Description

Prof. Marija Vasić will lead this upcoming Logo Chat.  Her topic is “Viktor Frankl in my activism, teaching, and writing”.

Prof.Vasić: “I am a sociology teacher in Novi Sad in the high school and an political activist. I have written two books about the Holocaust and integrated that material into my students’ school curriculum. As part of the Holocaust unit, I teach them about Viktor Frankl and logotherapy. Last year, I was arrested along with five students right before a major student protest in Serbia, under the charge of conspiring to overthrow the constitutional order. We spent seven months in detention—two months in prison and five under house arrest. During my prison detention, I went on a hunger and thirst strike, which triggered a blockade of the court and led to our release into house arrest. In my prison cell, I had five books by Viktor Frankl and organized a discussion on logotherapy among the other female inmates. During my detention, my students published an open letter asking me to remember everything I had taught them about Frankl and reminding me that one day we would meet again in a warm classroom to talk about it all, just as he survived by finding meaning in his suffering.
I look forward to having the opportunity to share my experience with others and discuss how much logotherapy is needed by all of us in the modern world—not just by individuals who find themselves in extreme conditions.”
